In December, 2006, ComCor, Inc. finalized the sale of the residential facility, 5250 N. Nevada Ave, and office facility, 5260 N. Nevada Ave. The sale of the two facilities was the result of Urban Renewal and Revitalization of the North Nevada Ave. Corridor.
On February 10, 2007, ComCor staff completed the transfer of all clients from the residential facility at 5250 N. Nevada Ave, to other ComCor residential facilities located at 3844 and 3950 N. Nevada Ave, with no interruption of services. The clients involved in this transfer were assigned to ComCor’s Diversion, Boot Camp and Bureau of Prison programs. The 5250 facility had been part of ComCor, Inc. since January 1, 1984, when ComCor took ownership of the building from El Paso County, with the understanding that the correctional program the county had been administering would continue. ComCor continued providing community correctional programs in that facility for the next 22 years. A small structure in the center of the two rows of housing units at 5250 served as the Administration offices for ComCor until they purchased the building next door, at 5260 N. Nevada Ave. and moved the Administration offices into that building. The offices remained at 5260 until 1993, when ComCor purchased the building at 3615 Roberts Rd and moved their Administration offices to that location, where it remains today.
The 5250 and 5260 ComCor properties, as well as many other properties on N Nevada Ave, fell victim to the city of Colorado Springs Urban Renewal and N. Nevada Ave. Revitalization Projects. These two city projects have been in progress over the past 6 years. In November 2001, the City of Colorado Springs, Urban Projects Unit, began holding meetings and talks with property stakeholders in the North Nevada Ave Revitalization project. These meetings and talks led to the August 2002, “North Nevada Avenue Corridor Reinvestment Study, funded by the City of Colorado Springs, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and Classic Homes. The purpose of the study was to provide a vision, concept and strategy for the future use and development of the N. Nevada Ave Corridor from Lilac Lane to I-25. All of ComCor’s Colorado Springs residential and non-residential facilities, as well as their dining facility, are located within that portion of N. Nevada Ave. However, ComCor does not expect to lose any of the other facilities in the foreseeable future due to Urban Renewal or the Reinvestment Project. In the mean time, ComCor continues to serve the needs of our community! |
